Reviews

The view one way is of offices, the other, smart
Victorian terraced houses, so this pub has to satisfy a
wide variety of customers and their differing needs— and
it does with aplomb. Plenty just come in for a drink but
you can eat on either of the two floors, although the
ground floor has more atmosphere, despite its somewhat
over-enthusiastic lighting; just order at the bar and leave
them your credit card. The Mediterranean exerts quite an
influence on the large menu, whose prices are more than
fair. Pasta dishes appear to come in two sizes—big or
even bigger—and the antipasti dish for two is great
for sharing over a bottle of wine. Sandwiches use
ciabatta, and dishes like tiramisu or panna cotta
finish things off nicely.
MICHELIN GUIDE - EATING OUT IN PUBS

George and Richard Manners took over the Dartmouth
Castle in Hammersmith a couple of years ago. While their aim
is to keep the place very much a pub—somewhere to
relax over a pint of two—the food is proving an even greater
attraction. The monthly changing Mediterranean menu ranges
from imaginative sandwiches (grilled chicken, pancetta,
avocado and tomato) to dishes such as Caldeirada fish stew;
salmon and dill fish cakes, sautéed spinach and paprika
hollandaise; grilled rib-eye with roast new potatoes, roast and
salsa verde. Vegetarian aren’t forgotten either, with maybe
bruschetta di pomodoro—grilled Pugliese bread with tomato,
basil and garlic. Typical desserts are pear and almond tart with
vanilla ice cream, and tiramisu.
The range of beers includes two real ales on tap at any one
time, and there’s a good wine list with 15 available by the
glass. Facilities extend to a beer garden and function room.”
