26 Glenthorne Road, Hammersmith, W6 OLS
The view one way is of offices, the other, smartVictorian terraced houses, so this pub has to satisfy awide variety of customers and their differing needs— andit does with aplomb. Plenty just come in for a drink butyou can eat on either of the two floors, although theground floor has more atmosphere, despite its somewhatover-enthusiastic lighting; just order at the bar and leavethem your credit card. The Mediterranean exerts quite aninfluence on the large menu, whose prices are more thanfair. Pasta dishes appear to come in two sizes—big oreven bigger—and the antipasti dish for two is greatfor sharing over a bottle of wine. Sandwiches useciabatta, and dishes like tiramisu or panna cottafinish things off nicely.MICHELIN GUIDE - EATING OUT IN PUBS
George and Richard Manners took over the DartmouthCastle in Hammersmith a couple of years ago. While their aimis to keep the place very much a pub—somewhere torelax over a pint of two—the food is proving an even greaterattraction. The monthly changing Mediterranean menu rangesfrom imaginative sandwiches (grilled chicken, pancetta, avocado and tomato) to dishes such as Caldeirada fish stew;salmon and dill fish cakes, sautéed spinach and paprikahollandaise; grilled rib-eye with roast new potatoes, roast andsalsa verde. Vegetarian aren’t forgotten either, with maybebruschetta di pomodoro—grilled Pugliese bread with tomato, basil and garlic. Typical desserts are pear and almond tart withvanilla ice cream, and tiramisu. The range of beers includes two real ales on tap at any onetime, and there’s a good wine list with 15 available by theglass. Facilities extend to a beer garden and function room.”AA PUB GUIDE
